Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” — Mark Twain

I love the fine art of cruising.   Forget the image of the new fleet of 21st century monster liners built for 5,000+ passengers.  The very best and most magical journeys today are  by small luxury ship,  expedition vessels,  boats, barges, gulets, masted schooners and yachts.  These are intimate cruises for half a dozen or a few hundred guests who share a passion for travel by river and sea.

Over the past ten years I have enjoyed the fabulous experience of sailing around the archipelagos of the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Greece, South Pacific and Scotland, and taken a ten week grand voyage around South America, following in the wake of Magellan and Darwin through the Patagonian Fjords.  Leisurely, languid travel too – a  cultural journey meandering up the Danube and a wonderful wine- tasting canal cruise in Burgundy.

In January 2013, I set off on an epic trip of a lifetime, circumnavigating the globe over four months on board the Silver Whisper, visiting 5 continents,  28 countries, 52 ports –  unpacking only once.   A different port of call every day or so, as well as crossing the Pacific and Atlantic with endless days at sea,  criss crossing the Equator to explore the world at a slow, slow pace.

This website will cover the most inspiring cruise itineraries and seafaring adventures from the Amazon to the Yangtze, South America to the Seychelles,  Arctic to Antarctic.  On these pages, you will find a gradually growing collection of eloquent, aspirational travelogues written by a small team of professional writers whose personal travel stories illustrate a wealth of exciting ports, exotic islands, culture, heritage, wildlife.  And of course a gallery of photographs to show off spectacular scenic beauty, wild seascapes and glorious sunsets taken on deck.

Each feature is accompanied by full itinerary  information, facts and figures on ports and destinations,  ships and cruise companies to entice and assist you to plan your own voyage of discovery.
